Well,
despite the sunshine the swell wasn't too good but taking out a
hardboat the two of us still made it to the dive site at the cost of
breaking [gulp] two 18 watt HID bulbs that fell under my twinset, or
the twinset falling over them :-(
Fortunately we had scooby doo lights
and three scouts as backup between us. Took us a while to ping and
shot the wreck as it being turtle, downward in a ditch, is not nice.
On the first, the swell and current literally tore the grapple hook
off the wreck after a while, so we did it again -- this time rolling
it into the wreck as much as we could.
Despite the neap tides we had a short
window and by the time we reached 45 metres, the current only just
started to slacken but oops... the shot started to move under us too.
Sunlight sort of ended at this depth
and when we reached the bottom at 60 metres (a surprise not having
HIDs how we ever dove these depths before!) it was indeed dark but
with about 3 metre visibility and we saw the grapple which was bent,
bouncing with us on the sea bed. After a short while, not banging into
any wreck or anything and the seabed dropping to 70( we suspect?),
boredom took over so we started to ascend and did some valve drills
etc. to add pleasure to the dive. Water temperature was about 12C and
we were using 17/45 trimix as bottom gas and 50% Oxygen for deco
running a moderate Decoplanner table.
By the time we reached 6 metres, the swell
above us had started playing up quite a lot so I had to watch my
buddy's signal and we both felt quite uncomfortable waiting there. Need to find a day with less
swell next time or a vegetarian buddy perhaps :-)Fisgard II? Any time. Its a
challenging dive and well worth it. / Izzy
